* The regulations as of July 1, 2022, are very clear on this subject: no stickers, no approval. In other words, without these small retro-reflective devices, one risks the same penalty as for not wearing a helmet, which is a fourth-class fine, amounting to a flat rate of 135 euros (reduced to 90 €, increased to 375 €) and a deduction of 3 points from the driving license.
In practice, law enforcement rarely issues tickets for the absence of reflective stickers. However, we are never safe from a change in road safety instructions. And not putting a sticker also exposes one to foolishly losing three points in the event of a check.
